Olympic exchange
The Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, with
support of UNIDENT Company, held the Academic Competition in therapeutic
dentistry for students where teams of 15 higher educational institutions from
six countries took part. The Academic Competition not only revealed the
strongest students, but also became a platform for exchange of experience both
among students and among teachers of educational institutions.
This Academic Competition has become the fourth contest for dentistry students held under the auspices of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, and this time among participants there were five teams from the CIS and Baltic states. Next time the University plans to considerably expand the geography of the competition participants and to attract European higher educational institutions.
“Next year we want to go global, and we will attract universities of Germany, France, Poland, Portugal and other countries,” says Fatima Yurievna Daurova, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, Deputy Dean of Medical Chair of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia in the Dentistry specialty, Head of the Therapeutic Dentistry Department.
“We are already on the way of developing the special program for the academic competition — of course it is rather difficult, but I think we will do everything right. And we will surely be happy to see UNIDENT Company as our partners again in such a large academic competition.
“This academic competition which was held on December
20 and 21, first of all, made the students happy. The organizers tried to
diversify competitive stages as much as possible. During the first day, such
contests as Welcoming Address, Scientific Reports and Homework were held.
During the Welcoming Address contest the teams recited poems, showed videos and theatrical miniatures with unflagging enthusiasm. The positive beginning created the right mood starting from the very first minute of the competition. The Scientific Reports contest demonstrated not only the students’ artistic skills, but also a wide knowledge of pressing problems of modern dentistry. And during the break, the participants and competition panel members were amazed by the set of engineering thought of the students who presented their Homeworks. Functioning dental unit in miniature made of plasticine astounded not only the students, but also the competition panel members who surely had seen dental units.
During the second day, the students demonstrated their potential in the contest of manual skills in endodontic treatment and restoration as well as showed the team spirit and solidarity within the contest for the supporters. “The Academic Competition is held in a very friendly atmosphere, the teachers exchange their opinions, each higher educational institution has its approach, its own methods,” says Fatima Yurievna Daurova. “Not only for the students, but also for us this is a very positive event which is the key for our further work.”
The awards for the Academic Competition winners and materials for the manual skills contest were traditionally provided by UNIDENT Company.
