A Workshop on Laser Systems in Moscow

A workshop was held in Unident dental clinics for experts interested in the opportunities of the laser dentistry. The leading dentists of the clinics network performed a variety of soft and hard tissue procedures. Special priority was given to issues relating to the application of lasers in child treatment – participants were interested to know if the innovative technique could attract parents and young patients to the clinic.

Most of the experts who participated in the workshop are interested in developing pediatric dentistry in their clinics. There are a number of peculiarities about the development in this sector; one of the key tasks in child treatment is to remove the child’s psychological barriers and fear to treatment and motivate children to visit dentists.
Parents always seek to find the best variant of medical care for their child. According to Maria Solop, a leading expert in laser systems of Unident clinics, the laser treatment is perceived by patients as the most advanced and painless treatment technique. That is why often parents purposefully look for clinics, which can offer their children high-quality laser treatment.

— For the most part of manipulations made by the dentist this technique does not require anaesthesia and in many cases, for example, in case of tooth decay treatment, it completely releases the patient from pain or any unpleasant sensations, — says Maria Solop. – Besides, for children this treatment is less scary, the more so that the patient does not hear the unpleasant buzzing of the drilling machine. Moreover, going to the doctor can be presented as a laser-related game – today’s generation of children is very advanced.

In addition to the pediatric dentistry, participants of the workshop wanted to know more about the conceptual scope of application of lasers, particularly, in therapy, tooth decay and pulpitis treatment, root canal sterilization, and application of lasers in orthopedics

– veneer removal and crown lengthening. For example, removing a veneer with the use of laser is much faster than with a drill, and lengthening the crown does not need removing a tissue scrap.

The leading dentists attended the workshop primarily to see the possibilities of the laser dentistry in practice. So, there was not much of theory as such and the training was aimed at practical experience. A patient was invited to come to the clinic: when answering questions of the participants of the workshop, Unident dentists performed a variety of procedures on the patient, such as 2 and 5 class cavity preparation, root canal sterilization, frenectomy, removal of verruca and viral papillomas, removal of veneers and veneer preparation, herpes treatment. All participants of the workshop also had a chance to work with lasers on their own – the experts prepared pulled out teeth or veneers they had brought with them by using Biolase Waterlase MD, one of today’s most advanced hydrokinetic lasers.
