Innovations for dental technical laboratories

At the “Modern Technologies in Prosthetic Dentistry” workshop, organized by UNIDENT, manufacturers of equipment and materials presented the latest achievements in the industry most relevant for dental technical laboratories. At the beginning of September specialists from leading foreign companies gathered in Moscow. During the workshop there was a presentation of the innovations of Italian Zhermack, German Wieland, and acrylic teeth manufacturer Unident Trade, USA.

Pavel Shuryaev, UNIDENT dental brand manager, and Nicola Rossi, Director for Export at Zhermack, spoke about the latest Zhermack’s achievements. They presented equipment, which has just recently appeared on the Russian market: the environmentally friendly economy-type sandblasting machine of Duno Eco tech series, Giga press ceramic furnace, and Quasar Plus, a unique, absolutely unparalleled soldering machine. Sandblasting machines made by Zhermack have a sand re-circulation function and an extra nozzle for the waste abrasive material, which helps to save on expendables; they are also supplied with enlarged cylinders adding to a continuous uninterrupted running cycle.

Quasar Plus is a special device designed for spot soldering with the use of infra-red light. The machine combines advantages of traditional torch soldering and laser soldering, ignoring at the same time their disadvantages such as requirements to the user experience or a high price of equipment.

An absolute innovation of the manufacturer, which was presented to the public in more detail at the Dental Expo 2012 exhibition, was the Hurrimix mixer for plasters and alginates, which immediately found its first buyer. The mixer is good for being used in dental technical laboratories, but it is of more interest for dentists because by using it the dentist can get a uniform bubble-free mix in no time, just for 6 seconds. Another thing that is worth mentioning is the equipment design: as a true Italian company, Zhermack pays much attention to design and never ceases to improve it seeking to do the same with the functionality and quality.

During the 2^nd half of the workshop, Mikhail Sitnikov, Wieland’s brand manager in Russia, and Florian Yager, Wieland’s Leading Technologist, made a presentation of Zenotech mini, the most compact CAD/CAM system on the Russian market. Also, for the first time in Moscow, the company presented a zenostar-based technology for manufacture of solid zirconia monolithic dentures. Florian Yager gave an open master-class on the application of correction fluids based on the technology without using facing ceramics. This innovative technique completely changes the standard dental denture manufacturing methods.

The workshop gathered together dental technicians and dentists from Moscow, Domodedovo, Bryansk, Tver and other cities and towns. Such meetings attract attention, especially, of the regions, which was evidenced by the number of participants that had increased against the previous years. Many of the specialists are already clients of UNIDENT, others had a chance to compare the characteristics of old familiar equipment with advanced technologies.

The workshop was organized in a feed-back mode, participants asked questions to lecturers and could make a test drive of equipment. Florian Yager demonstrated the whole process of denture manufacture, from the beginning to the end. Nicola Rossi told participants about a new line of expendables, most suitable for dental technicians. In particular, he spoke about cold polymerization plastics — a new material for denture manufacture, which helps to reduce the operating time without using supplementary equipment.

The communication format was not tiresome or too formal; the workshop ended with a luxurious cocktail dinner, awarding of personal certificates and useful gifts to participants. It may be concluded with certainty that workshop participants are interested in such training format.
