From 2 to 12 November, the XV International Festival Vivacello was held at three concert venues in Moscow — the only large-scale project in Russia dedicated to cello music. We present the most vivid and atmospheric images from the festival concerts.

On the first evening, guests were treated to a program dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the outstanding cellist Daniil Shafran and the premiere of Aziza Sadykova’s composition “Angel of Light” for cello and orchestra. This is the 28th premiere for the entire history of the festival.

The second festival evening in P.I.Tchaikovsky Concert Hall was dedicated to chamber music.  The concert was attended by the art director of the project, honored artist of Russia, cellist Boris Andrianov and his eminent colleagues — Israeli pianist Itamar Golan and members of the David Oistrakh Quartet Andrei Baranov (violin) and Fedor Belugin (viola).

On 7 November, at Kozlov Club Unplugged, on the new stage of Aleksei Kozlov’s club, the musical evening “Symphonic Jazz of the Ivanov Brothers” was held. The program included original compositions and jazz arrangements by the Ivanov brothers, honored artists of Russia, inventors of “symphonic jazz”.

One of the festival venues was the House of Culture Rassvet  — here, in a cozy and intimate atmosphere, two musical evenings of VIVACELLO were held. The headliner of the first evening at Rassvet was the Italian pianist and composer Giuseppe Andaloro. At the concert — for the first time in Russia — his transcription of “The Rite of Spring” for two cellos and two pianos was performed.

The second evening was dedicated to the 280th anniversary of the outstanding Italian cellist of the 18th century Luigi Boccherini, who is rightfully considered one of the key representatives of the “gallant style” in music. The soloists were accompanied by the Moscow Chamber Orchestra Musica Viva conducted by Aleksandr Rudin.

The final chord of the anniversary VIVACELLO is a performance of 12 famous cellists. For the first time in history, the final evening of the festival was held without orchestra.
On this day, on the stage of P.I. Tchaikovsky Concert Hall was performed by the art director of VIVACELLO, honored artist of Russia Boris Andrianov, laureates of international competitions Mariia Zaitseva, Anna Koshkina, Kamil Mukhametdinov, Aleksandr Ramm, Chen Yiqi, Olga Kalinova, Mikael Samsonov, the Russian-German ensemble Rastrelli Cello Quartet, as well as a special guest — luminary of the Russian cello school, people's artist of Russia Aleksandr Kniazev.  Together with musicologist Iaroslav Timofeev, they introduced guests to the history of the cello from antiquity to the present.

Who would his characters and audience have been? In general, is Dostoevsky any more relevant or not? These questions formed a program devoted to the 200th anniversary of the writer: it was held at the Theater of Nations from March to December 2021, with the support of the Foundation U-ART. Two stages, the Small and the New, were assigned to the experimental performances.
