Evgeny Zevin's Exhibition
 |
An exhibition of People’s Artist Evgeny Zevin, organized with the assistance of U-Art Fund and UNIDENT Group of Companies, has been inaugurated in Saint Petersburg, in the Marble Palace halls.
The artist participated already in the very first initiatives of Moscow nonconformists and this review display includes some rare canvases. The exhibition is to be visited till January 16. |
Evgeny Zevin is People’s Artist of Russia, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts, a member of the Moscow Union of Artists, laureate of multiple international awards. The display is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the artist’s creative activity and includes approximately 60 fine art paintings. Among them are works created in the turn of 1960s–1970s, during the period of Evgeny Zevin’s participation in exhibitions of Moscow nonconformist artists, in particular – the famous Izmailovo Exhibition in Moscow in 1974.

Offered to the viewer are portraits, landscapes and still lives as well as compositions wherein the author handles the problems of power, history and contemporaneity as well as images of 20th century Russian political leaders and men of culture (Communal Flat, Chair of Power, Scarecrows, In Memory of Dmitry Shostakovich etc). The artist’s keen interest in discoveries of Russian and foreign Avant-Garde art manifested itself in use of colour contracts, rhythmical structure musicality and image constructiveness. A combination of the real and the metaphoric in Evgeny Zevin’s picture is engendered by the author’s contemplation on the volatile nature of the beautiful, the irony and grotesque becoming the most effective form of comprehending the events of the “time of changes” in this country's history.
The exhibition has been organized with the assistance of Iveta and Tamaz Mnasherov, UNIDENT Group of Companies and U-Аrt fund for culture and charity. |
