Laser advantage in practice

In spite of laser technologies development and their gradual
working up the dental equipment market, practical information about laser use
is not sufficient in our country nowadays. Therefore, UNIDENT company as the
exclusive official supplier of
Biolase products in Russia,
while improving technologies also improves its teaching programs for a very
wide circle of dentists.
On July 16 and 17 in Pyatigorsk a masterclass on the use of
hydrokinetic and diode lasers took place; dentists from the whole Stavropol
Territory participated in it.

Workshops were held in our Stavropol partner`s clinic
Individual Entrepreneur KopylovAA, which enabled us to make teaching conditions
close to real settings as much as possible. The questions touched upon during
the masterclass were also consistent with the problems of different complicacy
that practicing dentists solve every day.
The masterclass was conducted by qualified doctors with more
than 10−year dental practice. D-r. Ludmila Badishyan, Doctor
at University of California UCLA in Los-Angeles and Biolase medical adviser,
specializes in periodontology, soft tissues surgery and root canal treatment
and has a long-term work experience abroad.

experience of our specialists enabled them during lectures as well as during
seminars to rely firstly on their actual practice of laser technologies
use.

In order for our masterclass participants to see laser
operation in practice, we invited patients to the workshops. Firstly with the
help of Ezlase laser Ludmila Badishyan
showed how to perform bloodless operations in soft tissues, to make ideally
even and accurate cuts, to coagulate surface. Then hydrokinetic
WaterLase MD laser was
introduced that after the introductory lecture could be tried by all
participants using technical material and natural teeth.

Lorya Porfiriadis gave a more detailed report on practical
use of hydrokinetic lasers. She is a very charismatic lecturer who can clearly
and captivatingly tell about complicated technologies even to people who are
very far from understanding them. Interested seminar participants actively
joined the debate with the lecturer.
In the first place, listeners were interested in detailed
comparison of conventional and laser treatment phases and results in particular
cases they face. Some people even discussed their patients` X-ray images to
find out possible ways of treatment and possibilities offered in such cases by
laser technologies. Our brilliant lecturers eagerly and with competence solved
all these problems and undoubtedly managed to win their colleagues’
respect.
Ludmila Robertovna also told about the financial aspect of
laser use, about the areas which can become priority for a clinic that uses
laser technologies to increase company income.

On the second seminar day a patient was a bit late and his
place was taken by Biolase brand-manager Artyem Bakhanov who had been
presenting general information about equipment to dentists at workshops. In
this way Artyem cured his median caries.
— I am very well acquainted with our equipment, – Artyem shares his
impressions, – that is why I had no doubts that the operation will not
interfere with my further work. During the treatment I did not have any painful
or even unpleasant sensations. My carious area was removed, and my tooth
filled, and I stood up and continued working as if nothing had happened. In
addition, I was treated by one of the workshop session participants who had
never dealt with the erbium laser in his life.
Soon there came patients who were treated on the first day
of the workshop session. On a young woman’s example that had her gum contour
corrected just a day before, we could see that the regenerative process is much
faster in this case compared with the use of a surgical scalpel.
The same can be said about the boy who had his frenulum cut
the day before. Doctors could see his radiant smile almost right after the
operation, and the boy did not show any sign of stress.
Inspired by the examples, one of the participants decided to
try new technologies on him. He needed his gum cut and treated. Ludmila
Robertovna quickly solved the problem, and after that the dentist claimed with
confidence that he will certainly have such a laser in his clinic. At present,
we have discussions about purchasing Biolase lasers practically with every
active participant of the workshop session.
